Adding Email Addresses is a piece of Cake
By admin | June 21, 2008
I have been on holiday for the past week,up in the Eden Valley near the Lake District. Its a great place for walking and wildlife. Its doesn’t get as many tourists as the Lakes but is a beautiful part of the country.
I have had a lot of time for thinking and planning and as I didnt have internet access,it gave me a bit of a break! So if anyone out there knows the history of the standing stones at Reagill, I would love to know.

Anyway I was thinking about what I had found hard about geting started on this internet thing, something which took me quite a lot of figuring out at the beginning, that I now find easy. It might help if you are finding things too technical to take a break, look at what you have achieved and take pride in it. I know I do. I really am not at all technical but I get a great buzz out of finally getting something to work. Email was one of those headaches.
If you have got a hosting account and a domain name and even a blog or website up you might not have thought about the email side of it, but I think its important to have that sort of contact. Even if its just your name@yourdomain.com,at least its something that means you want to have communication with others.
So,just go back to your hosting account. There will usually be a facility for adding on email accounts. Something like add/manage email. Go into that, and follow the instructions through. It is really straightforward. You will need to put a password in, so dont forget to keep a note of that ( which is something I kept forgetting to do initially-big mistake), click create and its a new email. So you could have support@yourdomain.com, help@yourdomain.com,etc..
There are a couple of other steps you need to take to make sure that you can pick up the emails from your main email account. I recommend that you have a proper email account, one that you pay for rather than a hotmail or gmail account. I have one main one now and I forward everything to that. It means that I can pick up my emails wherever I am, internet access permitting!
While you are still in the hosting account, go back into the mail manager where you added your new email, click on forwarders, and again follow it through, put the email you wish to forward and the email address you want to forward it to,click add and there you are, nearly done.
I use Microsoft outlook but I think the following is very similar in outlook express
Before starting:
- Make sure your domain name loads. If it doesn’t load your your email account wont work.
- Make sure you have setup your email accounts at yourdomain.com/cpanel .
You are now ready to begin setting up your email accounts.
- Open Outlook.
- Select Tools > E-mail Accounts.

- On the E-mail Accounts wizard window, select “Add a new e-mail account” and click Next.

- For your server type, select “POP3” and click Next.

- On the Internet E-mail Settings (POP3) window, enter your information as follows:
Your Name
Enter your first and last name.E-mail Address
Enter your e-mail address.User Name
Enter your e-mail address, againPassword
Enter the password you set up for your e-mail account.Incoming Mail Server (POP3)
Enter mail.yoursite.com for your incoming mail server.Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
Enter mail.yoursite.com for your incoming mail server.

- On the Internet E-mail Settings window, select the “Outgoing Server” tab.
- Select “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.”

- Select the “Advanced” tab and change the “Outgoing server (SMTP)” port to 25 or 26.

- Click Next.

- Click on test account settings to make sure it works,it should send an email out to you that you receive in your email box. Then click Next.
- Click Finish.

- Thats it! Really it takes less time to do than its taken me to type it.I hope it helps you to save some time as well.I wasted a lot of time trying to figure this one out! If you want an easy guide to getting started on the internet at a reasonable price (less than £20 or $40) then have a look at this link. I think theres a lot of useful information in there at an affordable price and if you want to start somewhere, then try it out
