Getting on with Blogging

So you want to start blogging? Well theres a fair amount to put in place. You will have to have a domain name and a host. If you havent already go these then you need to look at my other posts about this.
To start
You will need to have some way of uploading your files. Have a look at filezilla. Its FREE. There are other FTP (it stands for file transfer protocol if you are interested) programmes out there including coffeecup which are paid for programmes and probably worth considering if you need support with technical issues. A hint when you are downloading anything is to download it to your desktop so you can find it or have a folder called downloads on your c drive.
So download the ftp software and save it.
Recap
At this stage you should have
- a hosting account
- a domain name hosted at that hosting account. ie www.yourdomainname.com
- FTP software
You now need to take the files, the things that make up your website or blog and put them via the ftp programme onto the area in your hosting account that has your domain name on it. You have a space on that hosting account something like an empty folder and you need to fill that with the files by using the ftp software.
Where do you get the files? Well you need to download them onto your laptop or PC ( more in a minute) and then transfer them to your website or blog. Once that is done, they can be knocked about and amended to suit.
